Connecticut Children’s is a nationally recognized, 187 - bed not-for-profit children’s hospital. It also serves as the primary teaching hospital for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, has a teaching partnership with the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, and is a research partner of Jackson Laboratory.

The history of Connecticut Children’s spans more than 100 years. Founded as a 10 - bed hospital for children who suffered incurable conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida and polio, Connecticut Children’s is now one of only two freestanding children’s hospitals in New England — the only freestanding children’s hospital in Connecticut — that offers comprehensive, world-class health care to children and adolescents in a patient- and family-centered environment with a focus on research, education and advocacy.

A comprehensive array of pediatric services are available at our hospitals in Hartford and Waterbury, with neonatal intensive care units in Hartford (Level 4) and the University of Connecticut Health Center (Level 3), along with a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center, seven specialty care centers, nine practices across the state and in Massachusetts, and eight affiliate locations.

Our Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and Primary Care Centers are the busiest between Boston and New York.

Connecticut Children’s has 2,200 employees with a medical staff of more than 1,100, practicing in more than 30 specialties.
